Heat safety for babies and young children

Short answer

Keep babies and young children out of direct sun, use lightweight clothing, continue normal feeds and check them frequently.

What to do

  • Never cover a pram with a blanket.
  • Keep babies under 6 months out of direct sunlight.
  • Continue breastfeeding as normal.
  • Seek medical advice if you are worried or see dehydration or heat-illness signs.
